Artemis Quartett, Hochschule Lübeck
Heime Müller ha studiato violino con Uwe-Martin Haiberg, Ulf Hoelscher e Nora Chastain. Dal 1991 al 2007 si è alternato nel ruolo di primo e secondo violino nel famoso Quartetto Artemis, con il quale si è esibito in oltre 900 concerti. Diverse sue registrazioni sono state premiate tra l’altro con Diapason d'Or e con il premio “Echo Klassik”.
Nel frattempo, Heime Müller è diventato un docente di fama internazionale. Ha insegnato presso la Universität der Künste di Berlino e attualmente è professore di violino e musica da camera presso la Hochschule di Lubecca. Inoltre insegna quartetto d’archi alla Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía di Madrid e tiene regolarmente corsi di alto perfezionamento in tutta Europa.
Heime Müller è direttore artistico del Campus internazionale di musica da camera di “Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland”.
VOLKER JACOBSEN - VIOLA
Artemis Quartett, Hochschule Hannover
Nato a Hannover, ha intrapreso gli studi con Christian Pohl per proseguirli alla Musikhoschule di Lubecca con Barbara Westphal.
Nel 1989 fonda il Quartetto Artemis, una formazione inizialmente studentesca, che lavora con i quartetti Lasalle, Emerson e Juilliard e che ottiene i primi premi al “Deutscher Musikwettbewerb” nel 1995, al concorso ARD di Monaco di Baviera nel 1996 e il Premio Borciani a Reggio Emilia, iniziando in questo modo una brillante carriera internazionale.
Seguono anni di intensa attività concertistica nei maggiori festival europei, degli Stati Uniti, del Sud America, del Giappone e dell’Australia. Numerose anche le registrazioni di CD per Virgin/EMI. Per la sua attività musicale, l’Ensemble è stato insignito di diversi premi fra cui Diapason d'or, Echo Klassik ed è diventato membro onorario della Beethovenhaus di Bonn e dell’Accademia Chigiana di Siena. Come membro del Quartetto Artemis, Volker Jacobsen è stato docente alla Universität der Künste di Berlino e Visiting Professor alla Chapelle Reine Elisabeth a Bruxelles.
Nel 2007 ha lasciato il Quartetto per dedicarsi ad altri progetti di musica cameristica e alla docenza. Nello stesso anno è diventato docente presso la Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien di Hannover. Molti suoi studenti ricoprono diversi posti di prime parti in orchestre tedesche ed internazionali.
Attualmente ha come partner musicali Lars Vogt, Matthias Kirschnereit, Christian Tetzlaff, Isabelle Faust, Daniel Gaede, Isabelle van Keulen, Gustav Rivinius e Sharon Kam. Collabora con il Quintetto Bartholdy, il Trio Humboldt e il MAX Piano Quartet.
FRANZ BARTOLOMEY - VIOLONCELLO
Primo violoncello Wiener Philharmoniker
È stato primo violoncello solista dei Wiener Philharmoniker fino al 2012 e vincitore di vari premi a Budapest, Mosca e Vienna. La famiglia Bartolomey conta membri nei Wiener Philharmoniker da tre generazioni. Ha svolto una carriera concertistica internazionale sia come solista che come camerista, avendo come partner musicali, fra gli altri, Leonard Bernstein, Daniel Barenboim, Andre Previn, Mariss Janson, Simon Rattle, Rudolf Buchbinder e Thomas Hampson.
Dal 2014, si esibisce con successo in un insolito programma per due violoncelli nel ciclo concertistico “Bartolomeys in the MuTh”, assieme al figlio Matthias e con amici del modo musicale e teatrale. Bartholomey fa parte del particolare show musicale “La femme c’est moi”, assieme ad Elisabeth Kulman.
Si esibisce in progetti letterali e musicali con gli attori Birgit Minichmayr, Michael Heltau, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Peter Simonischek e Peter Matic.
Ha fatto parte di varie produzioni televisive e di CD (fra l’altro, di particolare rilevanza “Don Chisciotte” di R. Strauss con i Wiener Philharmoniker, sotto la direzione di Previn). Dal 2004 al 2006 è stato anche primo violoncello della Lucerne Festival Orchestra sotto la direzione di Claudio Abbado.
Svolge regolarmente attività di docenza presso corsi di perfezionamento musicale ed è membro di giurie di concorsi internazionali. È stato insignito del “Großes silbernes Ehrenzeichen” per i servizi resi alla Repubblica austriaca, e nel giugno 2012 gli è stato conferito l’Anello onorario della Wiener Staatsoper.
Nel 2012 ha pubblicato il libro “Ciò che conta è l’attimo, i 120 anni della famiglia Bartolomey alla Wiener Staatsoper”, edizioni Amalthea di Vienna.
Mahler Chamber Orchestra
Chiara Tonelli has been the Mahler Chamber Orchestra’s solo flutist since the group was founded, and is also a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
For ten years, Chiara was the first solo flutist of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence (under principle conductor Zubin Mehta) and prior to that of the Teatro Regio in Turin. She has additionally performed with orchestras like the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Mozart Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Camerata Salzburg, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Musiciens du Louvre.
As a soloist she has appeared with numerous ensembles, including the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Haydn Orchestra, Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, String Academy Bolzano, Orchestra della Toscana, Chamber Orchestra of Bergamo and Brescia, Salzburger Chamber Philharmonic, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra Ankara.
Chiara has performed on invitation at such chamber music festivals as the Festival Spannungen in Heimbach, Storioni Festival in Eindhoven and the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival in Virginia.
She has taught her own class at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole in Florence since 2005.
Following her graduation from the conservatory in her hometown of Bolzano, Chiara studied with Irena Grafenauer at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and appeared for four years with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra as solo flutist.
Along with her husband, Philipp von Steinaecker, Chiara founded the group Musica Saeculorum, and performs regularly with that orchestra on period instruments.
Nikita Vaganov was born in Moscow in 1988. He began to study the clarinet at the age of seven at the Rostropovich Children’s School of Music (classes of Vladimir Tupikin and Andrei Andreyev). He continued his professional educational at the Gnessins’ State Music College under Vladimir Ferapontov, a Bolshoi Theatre soloist and Honoured Artist of Russia, and later at the Musikhochschule Lübeck (Germany) under Professor Reiner Wehle. In 2010–2011 he continued his studies at the Real Conservatorio in Madrid (Spain) under Adolfo Garcés. Since 2012 he has been a student at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart (class of Professor Norbert Kaiser). Has taken part in master-classes given by such maestri as Sabine Meyer, Eduard Brunner, Vicente Alberola and Sergio Bosi.
The musician has been a prize-winner at several competitions, among them the I All-Russian Clarinettists’ Competition (1st prize, Moscow, 2003), the Possehl young performers’ competition (1st prize, Lübeck, 2009) and the Lion’s Club young woodwind performers’ competition (1st prize, Stuttgart, 2012). In 2011, together with students from the Musikhochschule Lübeck he founded the Cascade wind sextet, which was a prize-winner at Germany’s Inter-School Student Competition in the category “Chamber Ensemble” (2nd prize, Dusseldorf, 2012).
Nikita Vaganov is a grant-recipient of Nikolai Shilin’s Russian foundation Our Culture and Legacy as well as German foundations supporting young performers including those of Oscar and Vera Ritter and Maria Luisa.
The performer has collaborated with various youth orchestras and festivals including the IRO International Youth Orchestra (Ochsenhausen, Germany), the Baltic Youth Orchestra directed by Kristjan Järvi, the Verbier Festival Orchestra (Switzerland) and the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer festival (Germany). Since 2013 he has been a soloist of the clarinet section of the Mariinsky Orchestra.
Andrea Zucco began studying the bassoon when he was 10. He studied, among the others, with Sergio Azzolini at the Musik Akademie of Basel and with Stefano Canuti. At only 22 he was Principal Bassoonist of the Rome Opera House and from 2006 is Principal Bassoonist of the “Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia” of Rome.
As Principal bassoon he has performed all over the world with Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, La Scala Theatre of Milan, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie. In 2008 Andrea Zucco was personally invited by Claudio Abbado as Solo Bassoonist of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra to play Strawinsky’s “Firebird” at the “Musikverein” of Wien.
He works regularly with conductors like Claudio Abbado, Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev, Sir Antonio Pappano, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Harding and Gustavo Dudamel.
Alongside the activity of Principal Bassoonist and chamber musician Andrea Zucco is developing a soloist carreer that sees him active in many Festivals - like the main season of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia of Rome under Antonio Pappano or the “Verdi Festival” of Parma - and in prestigious venues like the IDRS conventions where he performed music by Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart and Fasch. He recently performed Bach and Vivaldi's concertos with the Soloist of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra broadcasted from the Italian Radio Rai Tre.
Andrea Zucco held masterclasses in prestigious Universities like the Royal Northern College of Music of Manchester, the Sibelius Academy of Helsinki, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama of London and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama of Cardiff.
Since 2015 Andrea Zucco is bassoon professor of the "Scuola di musica di Fiesole", Florence.
JOSÉ VICENTE CASTELLÓ
Born in Alicante, José Vicente Castelló is one of Spain’s most prominent horn players. He was a student of Professor Radovan Vlatkovic at the Reina Sofia Conservatory in Madrid, where Her Majesty Queen Sofia awarded him the Most Outstanding Student Prize in 2002 and 2003.
In parallel with his musical studies, he studied Hispanic philology at the University of Alicante.
José Vicente has received several international awards, including the Baerenreiter Urtext Prize, awarded to him in 2005 at the International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich, and Honorable Mention in 2007 at the International Music Competition Prague Spring.
He was principal horn of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra from 2001-2006 and principal in the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (Spain) from 2004-2010. He collaborates frequently with – and appears as principal in – the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Concergebouw Orkest, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Philharmonia, the Royal Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Orchestras, the hr-Sinfonieorchester and the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich. He has played under great conducters, such as Mariss Jansons, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Barenboim, Lorin Maazel, Bernard Haitink, Daniele Gatti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Jurowski, Andris Nelsons, Neville Marriner and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
Since 2004 José Vicente has been a member of Claudio Abbado’s Orchestra Mozart in Bologna, and he also plays with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
In the field of chamber music, he has performed with such renowned musicians as Mitsuko Uchida, Bruno Canino, Radovan Vlatkovic, Jacques Zoon, Paul Meyer, Kim Kashkasian, as well as with members of the Guarneri, Juilliard and Emerson String Quartets.
Jose Vicente has also participated in prestigious chamber music festivals such as the Marlboro Music Festival (USA), Festival de Mégeve (France), Festival de Santander (Spain), Edinburg Festival (UK), and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Since 2010 he has served as artistic director of the festival Musics en Residencia in Alella, Barcelona.
He is also currently professor of horn at the Catalonian High School of Music ESMUC in Barcelona.
Matthew Sadler was born in London in 1981. He received a First Class Degree in History from University College London in 2003 before moving to Germany to study the trumpet with Hannes Läubin in Munich and Jeroen Berwaerts in Hanover. He was awarded a DAAD Scholarship and won a position at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s Karajan Akademie. He is a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and performs in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
Outside the orchestra, Matthew’s repertoire ranges from baroque music to new commissions. He devotes much of his time to the natural trumpet, collaborating extensively with MusicAeterna and Teodor Currentzis, as well as appearing as a soloist with ensembles such as the Münchner Hofkapelle.
In 2009, Matthew founded Ensemble Schwerpunkt, a brass quintet that focuses on contemporary music and collaborates with a broad range of composers. Having won various national and international competitions, the group completed an extended production for Deutschlandfunk and is Ensemble-in-Residence at the Summer 2015 aDevantgarde Festival in Munich. In addition to his work with Schwerpunkt, Matthew’s other new music projects include a performance of Richard Ayres’ NONcerto for trumpet.
After studying in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and an Aufbaustudium in Mannheim for two years, Mark Hampson worked at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester from 1993 till 1996, before moving to Spain.
Mark has been a member of the orchestra in Gran Canaria ever since, and is also a founding member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He has played every project with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and has collaborated with the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, NDR Hannover, Cadaquéz Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin and with most of the orchestras in Spain.
He is also a member of various brass ensembles including MCO Brass, Canarian Brass Quintet and LFO Brass. He has played with World Brass and founded the South Africa National Youth Brass Ensemble.
Mark’s teaching activities include workshops in Seville and Zaragoza, Spain. He is a tutor at the Orquesta Filarmonica de Gran Canaria Academy and of the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya. He has also given workshops in Singapore and for the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra in Venezuela.
Originally from Bonn, Germany, Martin Piechotta devoted himself to the study of historical performance practice of early music and techniques and tonal range of historical instruments at the Cologne Conservatory.
He has performed throughout Europe as well as in Israel, the Ukraine, and China, with specialist ensembles such as the Freiburger Barockorchester, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Musica Antiqua Cologne, Les Musiciens du Louvre, and Concentus Musicus Vienna. Martin has played with these groups under numerous renowned conductors, among them Joshua Rifkin, Roger Norrington, Marc Minkowski, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
In addition to early music, Martin’s repertoire spans a large number of classical and romantic works, as well as contemporary concert and opera literature, acquired during his 7-year tenure as solo timpanist of the Stadttheater Orchestra Trier, his longstanding membership with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and through regular appearances at many international opera houses and concert halls.
He has played with the Münchner Kammerorchester, the RSB-Berlin, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and since 2011 is a permanent guest in the orchestra of La Scala in Milan.

Bis 2007 Mitglied des Leipziger „Ensemble Avantgarde“ ; zahlreiche Aufführungen zeitgenössischer Musik und Werke der klassischen Moderne. Gründungsmitglied des seit 1988 bestehenden Leipziger Streichquartettes, seit 1993 ausschließlich in diese Ensemble tätig.
Seit 1991 eigene Konzertreihe „ Pro Quatuor“ des Quartettes am Leipziger Gewandhaus, Aufführung aller Streichquartette der Ersten und Zweiten Wiener Schule in mehrjährigen Zyklen.
Regelmäßige Einladungen zu den namhaften Festivals im In- und Ausland, eigene thematische Zyklen zu Schubert, Bach, Stationen der Moderne u.a.
Seit 1992 Exklusivvertrag beim Label Dabringhaus und Grimm, über 90 CD-Einspielungen, darunter Gesamteinspielungen der Werke von Brahms, Mendelssohn, Mozart sowie der gesamten Zweiten Wiener Schule, Ehrungen dafür u.a. mit dem Diapason d`Or, dem Premios CD-Compact, dem Indie Award und dem Echo-Klassik 1999, 2000, 2003 und 2007.
In den letzten Jahren neben den internationalen Konzertverpflichtungen verstärkt Lehrtätigkeit bei internationalen Meisterklassen, u.a. in Kanada, den USA und Japan, dort seit 2009 Gastprofessur.
ANNETTE ZU CASTELL
Annette zu Castell studied with Wilhelm Melcher in Stuttgart, with Magdalena Rezler in Freiburg and with Simon Fischer at the Guildhall School of Music in London. She also studied chamber music with the Melos Quartet in Stuttgart and the Alban Berg Quartet in Cologne. In London she studied baroque violin with Mica Comberti. She attended masterclasses with the Borodin quartet, the Takacs quartet, Zvi Zeitlin, Tibor Varga and others.
She has received awards at both the German youth competition Jugend musiziert, and the Polish national chamber music competition.
She has been invited to the German National Youth Orchestra, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and has performed under conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, Lothar Zagrosek and Christobal Halffter.
Annette is one of the founding members of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. She also has been on the board of the self-governed ensemble since the beginning.
Annette was leader of the second violins in the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden and continued this position with the Radioorchester Frankfurt, the Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks, the Orchester der Ludwigsburger Festspiele and the Oper Frankfurt. She has also played in the Orchestra Mozart Bologna. She also founded an ongoing series of concerts on historical instruments in Wiesbaden.
Violinist Timothy Summers has been a member of the first violin section of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra since 2009, and has performed on violin, viola, and occasionally mandolin with the orchestra at venues across the world. For fifteen years, he has been co-director of the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival, which he also founded in 2000, and is second violinist of the celebrated Orpheus String Quartet.
Tim recently appeared as a chamber musician in concert at the Wiener Festwochen, the Schumann Festival in Düsseldorf, at the Berlin Philharmonie, at Schloss Elmau in Germany, and at Ferrara Musica in Italy. He has performed as a chamber musician at festivals across the US and Europe, including those in Aix-en-Provence, Lucerne, Trasimeno, Savonlinna, Bonn, Taos, Tanglewood, Banff, Sarasota, and Token Creek, Wisconsin. He has also performed extensively as an improviser with electronics and collaborated with the Sasha Waltz & Guests dance Company in Berlin, Ferrara, and Kolkata, India, and participated for several years in the Emmanuel Music cycle of Bach Cantatas in Boston, led by the late Craig Smith.
Tim currently teaches violin on the faculty of the Universität der Künste (UdK) Berlin. He has also taught violin and chamber music at the Liceu in Barcelona, the Musikene in San Sebastian, the Curs Internacional de Musica in Cervera, the Savonlinna Music Academy in Finland, the Orchesterzentrum in Dortmund, the Filarmonica Joven de Colombia, and the Britten-Pears Institute in Aldeburgh, England.
In 2005-2006, Tim was an artist-in-residence at the Danish Institute of Electroacoustic Music in Århus, funded by a grant from the Fulbright Commission. He has worked for several years on improvisation and computer programming projects with improvisation artist Steven Nachmanovitch. He recently developed a small suite of music learning tools (PitchMemory, IntervalMemory, ChordMemory) and music reference tools (PocketHarmony, ModeMap, StringYoga) for the iPhone . He has also worked as a teacher and developer of educational mathematics software at the University of Virginia's Center for Technology and Teacher Education.
Tim holds a B.A. in English and American Literature from Harvard University and an M.M. in violin Performance from The Juilliard School. He was a student of Ronald Copes and Robert Mann at Juilliard, Mark Rush at the University of Virginia, James Buswell at the New England Conservatory, and Robert Levin at Harvard.
Christian Heubes, born in Koblenz in 1976, received his first violin lessons at age 11 from Manfred Gotsch. Ernst Triner was his teacher until he began as a pre-university student with Maria Egelhof in Lübeck at the age of 16. While still in school, he served as concertmaster of the state youth orchestra of Rheinland-Pfalz. After completing his Abitur, he went to Vienna to study with Günter Pichler at the Univeristy of Music and Performing Arts. In 2001 he moved to Hamburg to study with Kolja Blacher, and in 2004 he finished his studies there.
He was a scholarship recipient of the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation and a member of the chamber music foundation Villa Musica as well as a prizewinner at the national competition Jugend musiziert and at the W.A. Mozart Competition in Koblenz. He received further scholarships through the Jerusalem International Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival.
As a soloist, he has performed several times with the Bodenseekammerorchester with works by Beethoven, Mozart and Vivaldi. From 2000-2001 he was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.
Christian Heubes is a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and also plays regularly with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. He has worked with conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Harding, Marc Minkowski, Ingo Metzmacher and Claudio Abbado.
Florent Bremond was born in 1973 in Marseilles, France. He studied viola at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique (CNSM) in Paris, graduating with honours in 1996.
From 1999 till 2005 he was a member of the Orchestre de Paris under the then Principal Conductor Christoph Eschenbach, and from 2005 till 2007 he was solo viola of the Orchestre Philharmonique de l'Opéra de Marseille. Since 2007, Florent Bremond has worked freelance as a chamber musician, teacher and violist with numerous orchestras, such as the Orchestre de Chambre d’Auvergne, the European Camerata, the Camerata Bern and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta.
Florent Bremond taught as Lecturer in Chamber Music at the Conservatoire National de Marseille from 2000 till 2005. From 2007 till 2012, he held as an Assistant Professorship for Viola at the CNSM in Paris.
David Adorján, born in Cologne in 1972, received his first cello lesson at the age of five and later studied with Jan Polásek, Frans Helmerson and Heinrich Schiff.
In 1999 he became principal cellist of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
As a soloist David Adorján has performed concertos with various eminent orchestras in Germany, Italy, France, Turkey, Austria, Japan and South America under the direction of conductors including Christopher Hogwood, Michael Gielen and Mariss Jansons.
Among his chamber music partners are Renaud Capuçon, Daishin Kashimoto, Jörg Widmann, Amihai Grosz, Alexander Lonquich, Sir Simon Rattle und Magdalena Kožená.
Together with his wife Rahel Rilling, David Adorján plans and directs the Hohenstaufen Chamber Music Festival, which celebrated its ten year anniversary in 2015.
Radio and recording labels such as CPO, Thorofon and Hänssler CLASSIC have documented his artistic work.
David Adorján has taught at the University of the Arts Berlin from 2004 until 2016.
He plays a Carlo Giuseppe Testore cello from 1697.
Born in Salamanca in 1990, Rodrigo was introduced to music very early by his parents, especially his father, Victor Moro, viola professor and pedagogue in Spain. After trying and listening to many instruments, he began his studies of double bass at the age of eight at the Antonio Machado School with Professor Javier Gil Ajero. In 2006, he was accepted in the Yehudi Menuhin School in England to study with professor Caroline Emery where he became the first international double bass student in the history of this prestigious school. In 2010, he was given a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music to continue his studies with professor Caroline Emery graduating in 2014 with first class honors and the Tagore Gold Medal Award, presented to him by HRH Prince Charles. In 2016, Rodrigo finished his master studies in the Luzern Hochschule with professor Bozo Paradzik.
Rodrigo's concerto debut was at the age of 16 playing with the Salamanca youth orchestra. Since then Rodrigo has performed concertos with different orchestras such as Welsh Chamber Orchestra, Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra, Opera Studio Orchestra of Lviv Music Academy amongst others.
In 2009 Rodrigo was the first Double Bassist to win the Royal College of Music Junior Department ‘Peter Morrison‘ concerto competition performing the Nine variants on a theme by Paganini. Furthermore, in 2010 he was the winner of the ''Young Students Category'' in the international competition held in the Double Bass convention Berlin10. Other Prizes include 2nd prize in the under 18’s international competition held in the Bass convention in Paris in 2008, 2nd prize in the Spanish national competition ‘Juventudes Musicales de España’ in 2012 and 3rd prize at the Golden Bass international competition held in Lviv, Ukraine, in 2013. He was also semifinalist in the Markneuekirchen double bass competition and selected for the last edition of the ARD double bass competition.
Rodrigo's first orchestral experience was at the age of 12 in the Salamanca Youth Orchestra, which helped him develop his love for music and orchestral playing. Since then he has played in many orchestras in Europe including London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Luzern Symphony Orchestra and Orquesta de Castilla y León amongst others. He was also selected Principal Double Bass in the European Union Youth Orchestra in the summer tour of 2015.
Rodrigo currently works in the National Orchestra of Spain and is also a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
Born in 1963 and brought up in Bamberg, Bernhard Heinrichs joined the local boys' choir at the age of seven and took up oboe a little later with Otto Winter. Later on he studied at the Conservatoire in Munich in the master class of Günther Passin and passed his final exam with distinction.
As oboist of the Arcis Quintet, Bernhard Heinrichs won numerous prizes such as the German Music Competition in Bonn as well as international competitions in Belgrade and Colmar. In 1987, he was awarded the Bavarian Staatsförderpreis für Kultur, two years later the second prize at the ARD competition in Munich, and in 1990 a first prize at the International Music Competition in Tokyo.
As a soloist, he played amongst others with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Bach Soloists, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.
Since 1991, Bernhard Heinrichs has been solo oboist at the Opera in Zurich where he received important musical impulses by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Other conductors he has been working with include - to name but a few - Franz Welser-Möst, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly and Christoph von Dohnányi. In 1997, he performed in concerts at the Musikverein with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernard Haitink followed by a tour through Japan.
At the Mozart Festival in Würzburg, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Chamber Music Festival in Risør (Norwegen), the Carmel Bach Festival (California), and the Salzburg Festival, Bernhard Heinrichs performed as a soloist and chamber music partner of Sabine Meyer, Elizabeth Wallfisch, Iona Brown, Christian Tetzlaff, Alexander Lonquich, Gerhard Oppitz, Christoph Eschenbach and Leif Ove Andsnes.
He has been teaching at the Juilliard School in New York, the University of Berkeley, and at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo.
Bernhard Heinrichs is also an internationally well-known and equally successful painter. His works were exhibited in galleries and art fairs in Zurich, Oslo, Miami, Munich, Vienna, and Stockholm.
Bernhard Heinrichs, a former member of the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER himself, has been woodwind tutor for the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER since 2005.
